What City Pays Most For Auto Insurance?

Drivers in Detroit pay more for car insurance than those in any other city, a study from Runzheimer International found.

The group, which calls itself a vehicle costing and consulting firm in a news release, found that the average driver in Detroit pays almost $5,200 a year for auto insurance.

That's about $4,400 more than drivers pay in the least-expensive city, Roanoke, Va., where premiums average $758 a year.

They were based on both male and female drivers of mid-size sedans with clean driving records and include comprehensive, collision, bodily injury, property damage and uninsured motorist coverage.

4. Los Angeles, $3,225
5. New York City, $3,127

Least Expensive Cities
1. Roanoke, Va., $758
2. Wapakoneta, Ohio, $871
3. Chattanooga, Tenn., $911
4. Green Bay, Wis., $948
5. Raleigh, N.C., $949
