Smoking Ban Lifted For Medical-Pot Festival

Festival To Benefit Women's Alliance For Medical Marijuana

Santa Cruz city leaders have lifted its no-smoking rule at city parks to allow pot smoking for the upcoming Women's Alliance for Medical Marijuana Festival.

The ban will be lifted temporarily for the medical marijuana users to medicate at San Lorenzo Park during the Sept. 29 festival.

The festival organizer, WAMM, is a cooperative started in 1993 for seriously ill medical marijuana patients and has about 200 members.

The city council unanimously approved the exemption last week.

The smoking ban was created in last March to protect public health and safety at San Lorenzo and Grant Street Parks.
