Police: Nearly Installed Web Cam Would Spy On Shower
Man Faces Misdemeanor Charges

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. -- A 24-year-old Felton man was charged with invasion of privacy after he hid a tiny Web cam inside the bathroom of a Scotts Valley home, police said.
Police said Jay Sanders was visiting a friend who lives in a downstairs room of the house on Granite Creek Way. During his stay he allegedly placed a Web cam inside of a heating vent located on the floor of the upstairs master bathroom, police said.
Officials believe Sanders was trying to get unauthorized video of the people living upstairs. They said police found the camera hidden inside of a vent on the floor, pointing toward the shower in the master bedroom.
Police said Sanders had drilled several holes for the wires in the ceiling and walls but was not able to make the connection before getting caught.
"He was going to connect it to his laptop (but the) software wasn't working. It is pretty likely that it was a failed attempt," said John Wilson of Scotts Valley police.
Police said it would have been only a matter of time before the camera was up and running, and streaming illegal video onto the Internet.
If convicted of the misdemeanor charge of invasion of privacy, Sanders could face up to a year in jail and a hefty fine.
