Sakic Out At Least Six Weeks

POSTED: 5:58 pm PST December 3, 2008

(Sports Network) - Colorado Avalanche center Joe Sakic will miss at least the next six weeks while receiving treatment for a herniated disc in his back.

Sakic sustained the injury on his first shift of the November 28 game at Phoenix and did not return.

"He'll continue to be monitored by our medical staff who will prescribe a treatment regimen that will hopefully allow Joe to be back playing as quickly as possible," said Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere. "Our team physicians are confident that this course of action is the best for Joe at this point in time."

Sakic missed the November 6 game against Minnesota earlier this season when he strained his back in the weight room. He returned for the next game versus Nashville, but was sidelined for the next five games. In addition, he also missed the November 24 game at Anaheim with an infected tooth, but returned again for the next game against St. Louis.

"I'm comfortable with the plan going forward and will work as hard as I always have in order to return to the lineup," said Sakic.

Sakic has two goals and 10 assists in 15 games played this year.
