SALINAS, Calif. -- Voter turnout in Monterey County was not expected to be high for Tuesday's election.About half of all registered voters in the county were expected to turn out -- a low number considering there is a gubernatorial race and a lot on the ballot overall.Voting places Action News visited in Salinas reported a moderate turnout throughout the afternoon. The numbers were expected to pick up later in the afternoon and early evening and people got off work and headed to the polls.
Many voters said they're glad this election is almost behind them."I don't like the negative ads. I was very disappointed to see some of the candidates start going that way and I was very proud of ones who didn't," voter Carolyn Inouye said.Meantime, poll watchers reported few problems."Nothing major. There's no fraud or anything like that I would think of. We really don't expect it here," poll watcher Pete Hill said. There have been a few minor issues. Some electronic voter machines were down temporarily Tuesday morning. As a result, voters had to cast a paper ballot. There were also a few incidents of polling places running out of ballots.
