Drink Nicotine When You Can't Smoke

NicoWater Could Be Available By July

Updated: 9:37 a.m. EDT May 24, 2002

Smokers soon could have a new product to help satisfy their cravings without lighting up.

It's called NicoWater -- water laced with nicotine.

NicoWater reportedly contains the same amount of nicotine as the patches and the gum designed to help people quit smoking.

But it hasn't obtained Food and Drug Administration approval and may not have the safeguards patches and gum have to make them less attractive to children.

Unlike the patches and gums, NicoWater isn't meant to help smokers kick the habit. It's for people caught in places where they can't smoke, like airplanes and some restaurants.

NicoWater will be in stores starting in July.
