Re: The climate in Las Vegas

To Whom It May Concern:

I'd like to draw your attention to a major discovery I stumbled upon when I recently visited the Las Vegas Premium Outlets, your new retail outlet mall located just west of downtown. The discovery came as I was walking through one wing of the outdoor facility on a late August afternoon. It went something like this:

"Wow, it's hot."

You see, Las Vegas is located in the Nevada desert and it gets kind of warm sometimes. Deserts are funny that way.

Now, most people who build malls and shopping centers here put these new-fangled inventions over the top of them called roofs. Then they throw in some super-size air-conditioning units to try and make the people forget how hot it is outside.

But by leaving the roof and the air conditioning off of your outlet center, all you're doing is reminding people how hot it is outside, primarily because, well, they're outside. True, the stores themselves are enclosed and air conditioned, but I can say from experience that trying on a leather coat at one of the discount outlets was not an enjoyable experience, even if it was only $80.

I will commend you on your selection of retailers. Finding deep discounts on discontinued, overstock, or irregular merchandise from retailers like Armani, Bernini, Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Coach, Crabtree & Evelyn, Dolce & Gabbana, Kenneth Cole, Lacoste, Nike, Perry Ellis, Ralph Lauren, Quicksilver, Samsonite, Timberland, Tommy Hilfiger, Wilson's Leather, Zales and many others can be a very exciting thing.

But do you really want excitement when it's 110 degrees outside? No. You want air conditioning. Especially when the concrete walls and walkways of the facility trap and radiate the heat, making it even hotter as you dash from Puma to Reebok. Good thing I got a good deal on those shoes, right?

Yes, I understand that it isn't always this hot in Las Vegas. In fact, sometimes it gets downright chilly, especially at night during the winter, when temperatures can get down into the 40s or even lower. I personally don't like being cold when we shop any more than I like being hot.

In summation, let me state that I am a big fan of the idea of outlet malls and am an even bigger fan of placing one near downtown Vegas, an area that needs all the help it can get. I'd be happy to help in any way we can to your venture a success. If you need me, you'll find me at your other mall, the Las Vegas Outlet Center.

It's got air conditioning.
