Report: Canseco Implicates A-Rod In New Book

Web Site Claims To Have Copy Of Book Due April 1

Jose Canseco says in his new book that he introduced Alex Rodriguez to a steroids distributor and that A-Rod pursued Canseco's wife.

Freelance writer Joe Lavin reported on his Web site that he obtained Canseco's book Monday from a bookstore in Massachusetts. The book is due to be released April 1.

The charges come at a bad time for baseball, as Tuesday was the opening of the regular season.

Lavin writes Canseco's book discusses A-Rod, Roger Clemens and Magglio Ordonez.

Rodriguez said he has no reaction to the charges.

In his 2005 book, “Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball Got Big,” Canseco accused several big names in baseball of steroid use, including Mark McGwire and Rafael Palmeiro.

Lavin wrote that Canseco didn't mention Rodriguez in his first book because he "hated” Rodriguez and he was worried that people would have "questioned [his] motives" had he included Rodriguez.

The reason he hates Rodriguez, Lavin wrote, is that Canseco claims that Rodriguez was trying to sleep with Canseco's wife.

Lavin also wrote that Canseco claims to have taken a lie detector test to prove his claims about the big stars he accuses of steroid use.

Lavin wrote:

“In case you're wondering, this is all true because Canseco took a lie detector test. Actually, he took two different types of lie detector tests, and the results are included in the book. Or he could be just saying that he took a lie detector test. What we really need is for him to take a lie detector test to see if he really took a lie detector test.”

Canseco also points the finger at Roger Clemens, according to Lavin, but Lavin wrote that Canseco admitted he was not completely sure that Clemens used steroids. Lavin also wrote that Canseco said Clemens did not attend the barbecue at Canseco's house which was mentioned in the Mitchell Report.

Canseco also apparently doesn’t stop at accusing athletes. According to Lavin, Canseco wrote that after a “60 Minutes” interview with Mike Wallace, Wallace sat with Canseco for an hour and asked him questions about steroids and human growth hormone.

“He wondered how the steroids and human growth hormones (HGH) might help him, a man in his eighties, live a longer, healthier life. He wanted to know everything,” Lavin said Canseco wrote.
