Internet Safety
January 06, 2008

Whatever your age, the internet is a great place to get in touch with family, friends or to get a plethora of information from educational sites, to your personal hobbies or favorite music. But the internet is also a dangerous place, and the sad truth is your kids probably know more about the internet than you do. Statistics show that one of seven kids who use computer chat rooms have been approached over the internet by a pedophile. Of those numbers, 5% get referred to law enforcement, 12% report it to their parents, 2% will tell a teacher or school personnel and the rest just don't report it. Even with these alarming figures, parental involvement is the key to keeping kids safe on the internet. So what do you need to do to protect your kids and even yourself from the dangers on the internet? Theresa is joined by school officials, a teen and her parents and the Managing Deputy District Attorney of Monterey County who discuss the dangers of the internet and what you can do to avoid them.
